Well, I kinda reminded of this survival game I've played for a while. Players jumped off of a plane with a parachute and landed on an island of an unknown battleground. The only task to do is to survive until the end; the winner can only be one person, and, you know what to do right? Yes, defeat the other contender that come to you, it's beat or beaten.

And why you played the game if not for the numero uno? If you just accidentally played it and didn't want to win, you'll be frustrated in no time and left for sure. Right, you are the loser; but, for not road-killing and head-shooting other players; aren't you actually the protagonist here?

It's a primal instinct, a desire to gain overdominance, to be the very best. It's in all of us.

Same thing whenever wherever people prevail, all goes "Go Big or Go Home." Now let's hear stories that we can learn below with some breakdowns on its advantage and drawback.

Advantage

Quick Uplift and Great Income

Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC was the first real transnational corporation, monopolizing in Dutch spice trade for 21 years in the early 1600s. It's considered the pioneer of corporate-led globalization. It was the first company in history that had issued bonds and shares of stock to the general public. They sailed across the ocean and traded with natives which one of their central regions currently known as Indonesia.

The resources they extracted in the trading boosted their homeland much especially for the war they had in Europe. The discovery of spice island granted quick uplift for their economy needs.

Despite their historical explorations and contributions, the native they were trading with acknowledged more the agony of slave labor, colonialism, and oppression from their rights on their own land rather than the benefit of business.

Such was the success of one side but the loss of the other side.

Back to the present. The sports we all love like football, tennis, and basketball is the tender personification of those oppressions. The difference is of course, it's fun and more competitive. But the chance of monopolized dominance has always existed in the form of the 1st winner.

Clubs such as FC Barcelona in football and Golden State Warrior in basketball would never know fame if their player never made goals or points that stated their offensiveness. Even if any games were to utilize tactics, a time of offensive moment must be prepared to decide the necessary result.

What can we see here? If you want to make a point out of something, you need to take a chance to gain the upper hand and grab the score out from the foe; in an appropriate way and on the agreed rule, of course.

That is the illustration of "offensive".

It also has a clear difference with "productive". Productive means you make something new, whether offensive isn't. Offensive means you take what advantage the other side/opponent/rival has and make it your own.

Scoring goals or points is more to productive. But in a play, usually, other side that is being in disadvantage should lose something in advance in the forms of energy, morale, focus, time, and anything that can be transferred to the offensive side.

In science, energy can't be made, it can only be transferred from one form to the other. So does most of all thing that exist, all have an equilibrium. A tickle of changes will create an imbalance that gives higher amount of thing or advantage to another side.

Physicians know that blood sugar has an average or acceptable concentration, an elevation or lowering of them can create mild to severe symptoms. It also works that way for many other physiological conditions such as hormone, fat, protein, etc. We can say that if any level of things is higher, that things are being on the offensive if also the opposite counterparts are being lower.

In the medical field, commonly when one thing escalated, the other will be reduced. Physiologically when insulin hormone elevates, blood glucose amount will drop.

In everyday life, we will often meet this "offensive" things. People that need to make a point out of their speech strongly can effortlessly achieve the objective by talking offensive, especially if the conversation has an opponent or is a debate. Clothing would stand out more and get more attention.

There is this TED Talk in Indonesia that explained about food diplomacy. The speaker said that five to ten years ago, most Indonesian didn't know much about foreign foods. But by globalization and internet; Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc. kinds of food are flourishing in the present. With the flow of food acculturation, the remaining aspects of foreign customs followed, so that's how the food diplomacy goes. He then promoted this program that tried to elevate local foods, begun with Sundanese foods so they might have a better position among Indonesian themselves.

That told us the foreign foods were being on the offensive side, and the local foods were in the drawback on the side of popularity and demand. So the local foods started to take the offensive to balanced out the circumstances.

Drawback

So much of the strength of being offensive, but what is the disadvantage? Or rather the drawback?

Just as I explained, it's different with being productive even if they have similarities. "Offensive" took benefits by taking what others have, while "Productive" make benefits from creating something new.

In conclusion, the downside is the imbalance of the state. It will give damages to the weak side. Notably when offense happened in human to human interaction, one should always expect a counter offense measure from the opposing squad. So the downside is "Conflict."

This "Conflict" is much appreciated by the world if they occur in appropriate ways and rules in the comprehensible loss. Even war is permissible if it has enough political strength and causes within the law.

But people are never flawless. A football referee would never satisfy both playing parties perfectly. Sometimes, even player could get insults and injuries outside of the game because of his/her recent play. This is the other downside, the "Damage."

Back to history, VOC was responsible for the extinction of dodo birds in Mauritius, according to Wikipedia. That time people didn't know about human rights, moreover about animal extinction.

Similar things can happen to any weak side of the player. A sports club can be downgraded, losing a sponsor, etc. because of consecutive defeat. I like sports and many other competitive subjects, but also, everybody knows somethings surrounding them will always have conflicts that resulted in damage.

Football hooligan is one example that causes violence even if football doesn't have anything to do with that. The reason is the young spirit of supposedly young fans that haven't yet a better grasp to distinguish violence and competition.

"Offensiveness" personally thaught me about how to achieve genuine progress, a leading position to stand out from the others. But I realize being overly offensive could results in a more counter-offense respond from the opponent side. Thus I acknowledged the consequences and about how to handle things to reach the outcome I want.

On the aggressor own side, what should have been thought are resource and time. Attacking would exhaust more resource rather than defense. It can be called "Accelerated Consumption". Being in the offense require more energy and resource.

Time, in the hand of the attacker should also be in mind. Generally, being offensive should grant faster conclusion which depend on the execution. It could result in quick victory, or defeat.
