Defensive Manner Toward Victory | A Story Against Colonialism
In cognitive development theory, people are regarded being strongly egocentric in the early phase of their life. Later, interacting with each other should yield the result of better cognition by understanding others' point of view.
But along the way, a process of implementing views could involve offense - if a personal belief is considered better and want others to accept it - and defense - if others want to give their belief -. No matter what, if no significant progress or change doesn't take place, no development will happen; and if one has a goal, it will never be achieved.
Now, it's commonly seen that if someone wants to reach a purpose, he/she need to do "Active" measure, but does passive action like the defense can give contribution?
The answer is, it can, if only it could provide significant progress or change. But how?
Every arena will always include exchanges of maneuver or external offense, but every maneuver can always be outmaneuvered. Defense is one of the strategies.

When a football team is facing an opposing team that has accurate long pass plays, they can utilize a positioning strategy of making the opponents' target-man player be overly behind the line of the defending players, thus become the "Offside" strategy.
With this tactic, the challenging team is forced to only short-pass or dribble through the defense; and so, their trump card is eliminated.
Being defensive could also grant a cut of resources consumption. This is due to the relation of defensive and less mobility. Defensive can be defined as a behavior to maintain the position or situation not to change or getting worse.
So the first advantage of defensive is "Saving Resources".
Indonesia is a unitary sovereign country that has the highest GDP in Southeast Asia. It is one of the contributing nation that founded "Non-Aligned Movement" that thwarted the cold war.
But Indonesia itself didn't acquire its sovereignty offhand. It suffered from centuries of colonialism in the hand of European - mostly Dutch - and Japanese, that was initiated by VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie).
Being offended by colonialist for centuries didn't neglect the nations' dream of freedom. Uncountable moves - frontal and political - were done in hope of coming closer to independence. This came even closer after Japanese took over Indonesia in the WWII and politically promised them a freedom.
Despite the lack of technology, in 1945 Indonesia succeed to win the liberty. This happened after the Japanese that occupied the country surrendered to the "Allied Force" and so the status-quo appeared. The Indonesian then declared it's independence.
With a goal in mind, the Indonesian defended their sovereignty with the advantage of resources. Regardless of the immense loss, the Indonesian were always on their own land with their own people, so it's easier to gather assets for the struggle. The colonialist, on the other hand, had accelerated spending for being in the offensive across the ocean. It also proves that being offensive cost much, especially after the world war broke out and harmed their own land.
A defender has this other advantage of "Observation". With less mobility, it should be easier to see objects, thus giving better chance to look for Achilles heel.
Drawback
Time and position are vital to being defensive. It will cost patience for it will take a long duration of time before the momentum appear.
The Indonesian felt the oppression of colonialism for centuries. That's a sure long time to defend their idealism, we can learn from history that invaded majority native could deflate and become minority native.
So, defensive is generally associated with "Slow Progress".
The other downside is "Immobility". Because of its purpose to keep the current position or condition from changing, defensive also commonly associated with stillness. It will not bestow significant advancement.
Seeing that, it is right to associate defensive with vulnerability.
A football goalkeeper is mostly positioned in a limited area. Opponents' striker wouldn't have much to speculate because of this limitation.
Requirement
Because defending is retaining condition, hence mobile-less, therefore passive. This passive act more often comes to a challenge by an external force.
Force is mass times acceleration. High force can be produced with increasing acceleration, and/or increasing mass. So, if one wants to give force to something, he/she needs to be fast and heavy.
The conclusion is, increasing mass equal to increasing resistance to the challenging force.
And also, heavy mass is related to the stereotype of being big because the usually bigger thing is heavier. Big basketball center player, the giant wall of stone, etc. But different substances actually have different density; a ton of cotton is equal to a ton of iron. Of course, the cotton is supposedly huge in a ton but the one-ton iron is significantly smaller in volume. A kilogram of muscle fiber is also smaller than a kilogram of fat tissue in volume.
Windup
It's really impractical to only employ one side of a method. Defensive is often associated with losing side because, in reality, exchanges of resources would rapidly take place. The offensive side is the one who usually gains more even if they also need to sacrifice much, and it's the defensive side that gradually loses much even if they sacrifice less.
But a comeback is never just a fantasy, with a decisive counter-act, victory is within the grasp of hand.
