Submitting Blogger/Blogspot Sitemap to Bing Webmaster | Final Move to Bing and Yahoo Index | to Infinity and Beyond

No, not literally infinite, nothing is, but endless perhaps. Because not only indexed in Bing search engine, sites could appear in Yahoo! search also. They've made a ten years deal in 2009.



Bing is owned by Microsoft, it's a search engine with a history as early as 1998. Firstly branded as MSN,  then Windows Live Search, then Live Search, and now Bing; it provides the user with typical search engine experience with a touch of dark teal color. However, I still won't bother to look at why there's so limited result in their image search. Other than promoting their own Microsoft products and strict algorithm, I haven't found another distinction of this search engine.

Let's try submitting the Blogger sitemap now, considering you already submitted and verified your site.



1. Sign In

Log in to your Microsoft account.



2. Open Webmaster


Open your Bing webmaster homepage or tap this.



3. Choose Site

After this, you'll be prompted to the dashboard afterward.



4. Select "Configure My Site" > "Sitemap"

5. Enter your Sitemap URL

For Blogger/Blogspot, the default post sitemap URL location is "http://blablayourblogname.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml". Meanwhile, the default page sitemap URL location is "http://blablayourblogname.blogspot.com/sitemap-pages.xml". A post is what should be the contents of a blog that people search for. A page is static and usually doesn't need to be indexed such as "Terms of Service".



In case you want to build your own sitemap, Bing also supports Sitemap, RSS 2.0, Atom 3.0, Atom 1.0, and text file format.



6. Click Submit


It will not immediately be confirmed if your sitemap submission is a success or not, just "Pending" status. It's not certain, the success status commonly confirmed in one or two days after.

There's a difference between the webmaster tool of subdomain and root domain. Blogger/Blogspot is a subdomain, whether .com, .net, etc. is root domain. The difference is in a menu in the "Configure My Site" tab. There's no "Submit URL" menu in the subdomain site webmaster tool. That tool is used to ask Bing to Index URL faster than submitting a sitemap.



Most of the time, this engine yield similar search result with Google. There are not many causes for user alike to migrate their preference to this search engine.



Nevertheless, the benefits of Bing actually exist even if they're not standing out. They're its smooth interface, more strict-safe search result, fast, and less malware so far.
